Covid-19 Update: 1,259 test positive as positivity rate stands at 15.6%

The Ministry of Health has said that Kenya recorded a high number of new Covid-19 infections after 1,259 people tested positive for the disease.

According to MoH, the 1,259 tested positive from a sample size of 8,081 tested in the last 24 hours. The Covid-19 positivity rate, MoH announced, now stands at 15.6%.

From the new cases, 1,224 are Kenyans while 35 are foreigners.

“498 patients have recovered from the disease with 357 from Home-Based Isolation & Care & 141 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 188,936 from which 150,552 are from Home Based Care & Isolation program, while 38,384 are from various health facilities,” MoH said in a statement to news rooms on Saturday, July 31.

MoH further stated that 1,469 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,965 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

In his Saturday report to news rooms, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that 185 patients are in the ICU, 43 of whom are on ventilatory support while 86 are on supplemental oxygen.

“445 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 399 of them in general wards and 46 in High Dependency Units (HDU),” Kagwe said.

Sadly, 5 patients succumbed to the disease, one having occurred in the last 24 hours while 5 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in July 2021. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 3,931.

In terms of new infections by county representation, Nairobi had 417 cases, Nyeri 139, Kiambu 120, Mombasa 96, Nakuru 66, Kilifi 60, Kajiado 42, Uasin Gishu 34, Taita Taveta 31, Nandi 28, Busia 21, Machakos 19, Kericho 16, Embu 16, Nyandarua 15, Kirinyaga 13, Kwale 13, Trans Nzoia 11, Kisumu 10, Murang’a 10, Turkana 9,Baringo 8, Tana River 7, Bomet 7, Meru 6, Garissa 5, Siaya 5, Bungoma 4, Homa Bay 4, Migori 4, Narok 4, Nyamira 4, Kakamega 4, Vihiga 3, Kisii 2, Kitui 2, Makueni 2, West Pokot 1 and Elgeyo Marakwet 1.

In his statement, Kagwe revealed that a total of 1,723,727 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, total first doses are 1,062,413 while second doses are 661,314.
