Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has urged Kenyans to cooperate with police officers in a bid to curb the soread of COVID-19.
Speaking during the COVID-19 briefing at Harambee House, the IG also urged Kenyans to stay at home during curfew hours to avoid altercation with police officers enforcing the measure.
“I’m asking all members of the public to cooperate with the police. You keep yourself safe and I sure you you’ll have no problem with the police. During the curfew I would urge all members of the public to stay at home,” Mutyambai said.
IG Mutyambai also warned urged Kenyans against attending public rallies and politic rallies, noting that it endangers the lives of Kenyans.
“No public gatherings, no political rallies we are not going to have discussions on that. Those meetings have already been prohibited and ours is to ensure that no such gatherings that endanger the lives of othet citizens. You play your part and officers will cooperate with you. If you don’t cooperate we will use all measures to ensure that you cooperate,” he added.
Speaking during the briefing, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe urged Kenyans to continue observing COVID-19 precautionary measures warning that persons who have received the COVID-19 vaccine are at risk of contracting the virus, only that they get it with less civility.
“We continue to implore all Kenyans including those who have received the COVID-19 vaccines not to let their guard down and urge then to avoid unnecessary movements and gatherings,” the CS said.
Adding; “Recent reports globally indicate that even persons who have been vaccinated van contact the virus. The difference is that those who have been vaccinated are getting the disease but with less civility. So it is advised that whether you have been vaccinated or not observe the rules,” he warned.
