Residents of Kitengela are in shock after a traffic police officer was found dead just two days after reporting to Kitengela Police Station.

The middle-aged male officer is said to have reported to the station, went to his coastal home for two weeks and upon returning he only worked for two days before he was found dead in his house.

The body of the officer was found in his rental house on Thursday evening after a neighbour became suspicious when the officer failed to leave his house all day.

A man known to the officer is said to have paid him a visit on Thursday early morning, and according to witnesses, the man knocked his door in vain and called the police officer severally but the calls went unanswered.

The neighbours raised concern in the afternoon after efforts to knock his house went futile prompting them to break one of the windows spotting his lifeless body.

“The man was a new tenant in this rentals, we got to know he is from coast because of his Kiswahili accent. He was in the process of settling down and even engaged me in trying to understand this area. I remember he also asked about mama fua who might help him with clean up and in fact I looked for one who said is available during the weekend, “said a neighbor.

None of the neighbours knew the man is a police officer.

Back at the Kitengela police station, his colleagues say they did not bother on his whereabouts since he had the previous day been coughing and had severe flu.

“I remember last evening he was on duty but he was coughing. I even asked him to seek medication and rest so when he failed to turn up for duty, I knew he is resting after seeking treatment. We were shocked when we learnt that a death incident reported at the station was him. Unfortunate that we did not even interact with him, ” an officer said.

One of the officers who went with him to an eatery for a meal said he is living in fear of a Covid-19 infection claiming the deceased officer was coughing.

The body has since been moved to Kitengela sub-county hospital as investigations into the sudden death is launched.

“We are investigating the unfortunate incident to get to the possible cause of the sudden death,” Charles Chepkong’a, Isinya sub-county police commander said.
