Police officers in Sotik, Bomet County, are investigating an incident where a man killed his wife and committed suicide.
According to sources, the incident was triggered by a domestic brawl that was occasioned by the man’s decision to sell chicken to fund the purchase of school uniforms for their children.
Attempts by neighbours and relatives to rush the wife to Kaplong Mission Hospital for emergency care were futile as she succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
The father of four is said to have committed the acts on Sunday, July 25.
“We heard of screams at night and later we learnt that he had butchered his wife. We made attempts to take the wife to the hospital but she, unfortunately, passed on. We had heard that the husband had disappeared at night but when it dawned, we realized that he had committed suicide by hanging,” one of the neighbours said.
Neighbours say the 38-year-old man has previously tried to commit suicide at least four times by taking poison.
Area residents are now appealing for help from the government and well-wishers to help raise the four children left behind by the deceased.
