Tigoni Hospital which is located in Limuru Constituency, Kiambu County has been officially closed for patients with other ailments after an upsurge of COVID-19 patients in the region.
Doctors who sought anonymity have told K24 Digital that the COVID-19 death toll has risen tremendously with between 6 and 7 people dying every day, a situation that is now causing alarm across the county.
Sources within the hospital are linking the situation to campaigns that took place in the neighbouring Kiambaa constituency and Muguga ward in Kabete sub-county. They say the surge has been experienced ten days after the hotly contested by-elections.
“Things are not good here. We are receiving many COVID-19 patients and losing many of them. Many of them are the elderly. We think all this is as a result of the gatherings that took place in Kiambaa and Muguga by-elections,” one of the doctors revealed.
This comes few days after Kiambu Governor James Nyoro announced his concern for Kiambu people due to the rapid rise in the number of people admitted with Covid-19 at Tigoni hospital.
” It’s true I can confirm the rapid rise in Covid-19 patients in Tigoni (hospital). As a result, we shall have an emergency meeting with health experts to discuss the way forward in an effort to curb the situation before things got out of hands”, governor Nyoro said.
