COVID-19 updates: Kenya records 17 deaths, 618 new cases

Kenya on Wednesday recorded 618 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s caseload to 193,807, the Ministry of Health has said.

In a statement, health CS confirmed that this was from a sample size of 5,507, recording a positivity rate of 11.2 per cent.

The cumulative tests so far conducted now stands at 2,064,700.

The country’s recoveries have risen to 183,211 after the addition of 290 patients where 261 were from various health facilities countrywide while 29 are from Home Based Isolation and Care.

17 patients have also succumbed to the virus, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the months of November 2020, and March 2021.

This brings the country’s fatalities to 3,800.

Kagwe has said, a total of 1,222 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,339 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Also, 139 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 35 of whom are on ventilatory support and 75 on supplemental oxygen. 29 patients are under observation.

Another 273 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 241 of them in general wards and 32 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Vaccination

 As of yesterday, a total of 1,635,441 vaccines had been administered across the country, out of which 1,040,317 received their first doses while second doses are 595,124.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 57.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.2 per cent.
