Many questions arose following the death of constable Caroline Kangogo with many asking whether it was murder or suicide.
While still waiting for the postmortem results to determine the cause of her death, her father Barnabas Kibor also a retired police officer confirmed that she indeed killed herself.
According to Kibor, her daughter arrived home on Wednesday night at 10 pm using a Boda Boda.
Caroline then proceeded to lock herself inside the bathroom and shot herself dead.
“To clear the air, I would like to confirm that Kangogo closed herself inside the bathroom and shot herself dead,” he noted.
The family of Kangogo further indicated that she will be buried in line with the Christian culture and not what she had indicated in her suicide message.
Reports on Thursday indicated that Kangogo was found dead inside a bathroom in her father’s compound in Keiyo, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to County Police Commander Patrick Lumumba, Kangogo’s mother, Leah raised alarm immediately she saw her lying inside the bathroom.
The fugitive police officer was wanted for the double murder of a fellow officer John Ogweno in Nakuru before proceeding to kill another man Peter Ndwiga in Juja a day later before she went missing.
Netizens weighed in on the matter with several leaders poking holes into the statement by Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya that killer cop Caroline Kangogo committed suicide.
Led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and LSK President Nelson Havi, the leaders explained why they did not buy the ‘suicide narrative’
“Corporal Caroline Kangogo is dead from an alleged suicide. This should not bring closure to investigations as to who killed the two men associated with her. We might never know her side of the story! In the complex world of crime, there could be a third force!!” Wetangula said.
Havi on the other hand faulted the media for poor analysis of the whole matter noting: “The media has been conscripted by DCI to run with the cover-up story “Caroline Kangogo commits suicide.” Who was the witness? When was the autopsy done? I remember telling special crimes boss on Tuesday, “I am sure you guys will eventually tell us that you found her dead,” Havi said.
Havi’s statement comes after the LSK hired Veteran lawyer Dr John Khaminwa to represent the legal interest of Kangogo when she was on the loose.
LSK through Khaminwa wanted Kangogo to remain free even after surrendering herself to authorities.
While weighing into the debate, Criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta disagreed with the statement by police that Kangogo committed suicide.
“This lady did not commit suicide..Gun placed in hand unlike where it would be because of the recoil. Blood splatter and drag would not be at the front. Shows she was brought there and left to bleed. Placing of the cover on the head? The yellow Jersey still?” Ombeta claimed.
