Covid-19: 480 new cases recorded as positivity rate stands at 9.4 per cent

Health Cabinet Secretary Kagwe has announced 480 new cases of Covid-19 from a sample size of 5,120 tested in the last 24 hours.

These new cases represent a positivity rate of 9.4 per cent.

Of the new cases, 459 are Kenyans while 21 are foreigners. In terms of gender, 245 are males while 235 are females.

The total number of positive cases in the country now stands at 190,183 while the cumulative samples tested so far is at 2.028,927.

CS Kagwe also announced that 148 people have recovered from the deadly pandemic. 81 of them were discharged from various health facilities while 67 were from home-based and isolation care.

As a result, the total number of recoveries shoots to 180,080 of which 143,700 are from home-based isolation and care while 36,380 were treated in various hospitals.

The CS announced that 5 deaths have been recorded after conducting facility record audits thus raising the number of fatalities to 3,737.

According to Kagwe, 1,075 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide 4,486 are under the home-based isolation and care program.

121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 37 of whom are on ventilatory support and 58 on supplemental oxygen. 26 patients are under observation.

216 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 200 of them in general wards and 16 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

In terms of vaccination, CS Kagwe said a total of 1,565,344 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, the first doses are 1,030,853 while the second doses are 534,491

The new Covid-19 cases are distributed in the counties as follow; Nairobi 178, Nakuru 54, Kiambu 40, Siaya 25, Uasin Gishu 25, Kisumu 20, Nandi 19, Kakamega 14, Trans Nzoia 12, Mombasa 11, Kilifi 10, Tharaka Nithi 8, Kajiado 6, Kericho 6, Migori 5, Embu 5, Nyandarua 5, Bungoma 4, Meru 4, Murang’a 4, Garissa 3, Kirinyaga 3, Machakos 3, Kwale 2, Nyeri 2, Taita Taveta 2, Tana River 2, Makueni 1, Narok 1, Baringo 1, Busia 1, Homa Bay 1, Bomet 1, Kitui 1 and Laikipia 1.
