Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to open up a public inquest to establish the cause of death of Karen DCI boss Anne Wanjiru Waiganjo.

Rigathi who was speaking at the burial of the DCI boss at Iruri village in Mathira constituency on Saturday, July 10 noted that they are not satisfied with how she died.

The MP revealed that two months ago some people were baying for Waiganjo’s blood and that the officer hit headlines of a particular tabloid maligning her name making her death is questionable.

“She was a happy girl, she didn’t have a history of any disease, she was up and about, she goes to a party, she collapses in a few minutes she is dead. It cannot be that we just leave it there, it should be done before a magistrate to establish the cause of her death,” Rigathi said.

The MP claimed that he will file a petition in Parliament to have the DCI open an inquest so that her family and friends are satisfied on what led to the death of their loved one.

The 35-year-old officer has left behind two children Tanaya Gathoni and Sandra Njeri.

An autopsy conducted on the body of Waiganjo revealed that the detective died from a heart related condition.

Wanjiru died on Saturday, July 3 after she collapsed at a farewell party in Baita Restaurant at Nairobi’s Upper Hill.

According to a report seen by K24 Digital, Waiganjo succumbed to deep vein thrombosis following a blood clot in her left leg.

The DCI boss collapsed at around 5pm last week while attending the farewell party of a senior police officer, SSP Henry M. Kiambata.
