Covid-19: Positivity rate at 9 per cent as 185 test positive, 15 die

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced that 185 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 2,047 tested in the last 24 hours.

The new cases represent a positivity rate of 9 per cent.

171 people are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners.

In terms of gender, 112 are males while 73 are females.

After the confirmation of the new cases, the total number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the country stands at 186,053 while the cumulative tests done is at 1,983,998.

On a positive note, CS Kagwe announced 1,186 recoveries. 1,102 are from home based and isolation care program, while 84 were treated in various hospitals countrywide.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 128,811. 93,3991 are from home based care and isolation program while 35,420 were discharged from various hospital.

Unfortunately, 15 patients have succumbed to the deadly pandemic. All deaths reported after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the month of June 2021.

The total number of deaths recorded in the country now stands at 3,690.

CS Kagwe adds that 1,151 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 5,426 patients are under home based isolation and care program.

119 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 33 of whom are on ventilatory support and 47 on supplemental oxygen.

39 patients are under observation.

182 other patients are separately on supplemental oxygen. 161 of them are in general wards and 21 are in High Dependency Units (HDU).

About the ongoing vaccination exercise, a total of 1,477,916 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, total first doses account for 1,018,143 while second doses are 459,773

In terms of county distribution of the new confirmed Covid-19 cases; Nairobi has 94, Bungoma 25, Mombasa 16, Machakos 11, Kakamega 7, Tana River 5, Kilifi 5, 2 Kiambu 4, Homa Bay 3, Kajiado 3, Nakuru 3, Murang’a 2, Kericho 2, Kisii 1, Kwale 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.
