Shock has hit residents of Thika town in Kiambu County after a decomposing body of a man was found hanging on a tree inside the deputy county commissioner’s premises.
The man is said to have climbed the over 50-foot long tree unnoticed where he committed suicide.
The unidentified body which had started to break down was discovered by a passerby who reported the matter to the police officer manning Thika’s land registry before it was collected for preservation at the morgue.
Appalled residents stated that the young man, who used an article of clothing, might have committed suicide over the weekend going by the severity of his body’s decay.
They attributed the rising suicidal cases to growing social problems and urged people to start sharing whenever they’re cornered by situations to avert more deaths.
They particularly singled out joblessness that has seen many youngsters engage in lawlessness to eke out a living but urged them to carry out any lawful job including farming to better their livelihoods.
“Let us try and start finding solutions instead of committing suicide. We understand there are no jobs but my urge to young people is, do what is within your disposal including farming,” James Kimani, a resident said.
The body was taken to General Kago mortuary for preservation as search for the deceased’s next of kin commences.
