Mourners at a funeral in Thika were treated to a spectacle after a politician was asked to step off the podium over remarks he made.

Kiambu County Speaker Stephen Ndichu was forced to cut short his speech during which he asked the Catholic Church to make reforms on the sacrament.

According to Ndichu, the Catholic Church should allow everyone who attends holy mass to partake on the sacrament.

“When you are giving the sacrament, you usually say that only catholics are allowed to partake, you should make reforms so that everyone is also given the sacrament,” Ndichu said.

In his statement, Ndichu claimed that the sacrament is the body of Jesus Christ adding that the Catholic Church should give it to all its congregants.

“Its like me visiting your home and find you eating and you fail to give me the food. That’s the same feeling we have when you take the sacrament and fail to give us. That is why I am asking you  to make some reforms so that we can be allowed to take it,” Ndichu said.

Ndichu also told the priest that he would employ his brother on condition that the church makes the reforms.

It was at that moment that the priest rose to his feet and interjected the Speaker stating: “I take charge now, sit down.”

Ndichu left the podium and told the priest that he will settle the score by also cutting him short in his address.

In his response the priest stated that he speaks out his mind when he is annoyed.

“Ndichu says he will do to me the same thing I have done him. Just get out and go and do what you will do,” the priest said.

Also present was former Governor William Kabogo who apologized to the speaker on behalf of Ndichu.
