Three people have been arrested in connection to a kidnapping incident of a 79-year-old man in Kitale, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed.
The three, a woman and two men, are said to have disappeared with Kennedy Bosire Nyabwari on June 6 after he had left his Kitale home for Kisii around 5:30 pm.
Grace Kerubo Nyakundi, Samwel Atunya Makori and Richard Okari Matunda were arrested while attempting to escape after being cornered by detectives.
The third suspect identified as Jackson Nyakundi Atei managed to escape but detectives are hunting down for him.
According to DCI statement, Bosire is said to have called his wife around 9pm on the same day he left home informing her that he will spend the night in Kitale town before proceeding with his journey to Kisii the following morning.
Attempts by the wife to reach out to the husband the following day around 4pm were futile as his phone went unanswered.
She later, around 8:30 pm, received a phone call from unknown people who informed her that they had held her husband captive and demanded Ksh2 million ransom before releasing him.
The wife immediately reported the matter to DCI through their toll-free line.
Special Service Unit and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau officers together with investigators based in Kitale swiftly acted on the report filed by the victim’s wife leading to the arrest of the three.
A motorbike used in the kidnapping incident together with a gunnysack used to cover the victim’s face were recovered.
