Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday nabbed a kidnapper in Naivasha who eloped with a baby from their home in Murang’a county.
In a statement, DCI boss George Kinoti said that the suspect identified as Charles King’ori alias Delvin Maina engaged police in a cat and mouse chase before he was apprehended for kidnapping Liam Mwangi.
“The suspect was arrested on Monday evening following a dramatic chase in the streets of Naivasha town witnessed by members of the public,” the DCI said.
According to him, he was arrested as he attempted to escape moments after the minor was rescued by the detectives.
He even went to a salon within Naivasha town where he made his hair to conceal his identity.
Describing the detectives as smart, Kinoti said that the suspect was cornered as he was on board a getaway motorbike.
“His arrest follows stealth and relentless efforts by the investigators, to ensure that the perpetrator does not enjoy a single day of freedom again, to torment innocent children and their families,” Kinoti said.
Police had earlier on in the day rescued the minor on June 2 by the suspect from his grandparents’ home in Murang’a.
The minor was reunited with his parents after exactly five days when he went missing.
The parents had launched an online appeal that went viral asking members of the public to intervene and help rescue the minor.
It has emerged that the minor was last spotted in Thika in the company of the suspect.
