A watchman, driver and a househelp to Chinese nationals are among three suspects arrested in connection to the theft of Ksh6 million theft at Karimenu II dam in Gatundu North.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, Kiambu County Police Commander Ali Nuno said the three are being held at Kamwangi Police Station for being involved in robbery with violence.

The county police boss said the suspects held one of the Chinese nationals hostage when they attacked their residentials at 9pm, Friday night.

Police Commander Ali Nuno said that his officers are investigating how the three managed to make away with the huge amounts.

The men, armed with a pistol and knives attacked the Chinese nationals after gaining entry through a drainage tunnel through the fence and later escaped to unknown direction.

The suspects were booked under occurrence book number OB/2/5/6/2021.

Construction of the Sh 24 billion dam is expected to boost water supply in Thika, Juja, Ruiru and parts of Nairobi.

The mega project has been hanging in balance since its construction began in 2019 and has been characterized with stoppages over delayed compensation claims by land owners.

The mega project has three main components among them the dam, water treatment plant of capacity 70,000m3/d and 67km of raw and treated water pipeline ranging from DN 500mm to 1,000mm.

Two terminal tanks will also be constructed of capacities 23,500m3and 3,000m3 in Ruiru and Juja respectively.

Karimenu II Dam project entails construction of a Dam of 59m height and 26.5 Million m3 storage volume to produce 70,000m3/d per day of drinking water.
