Two house occupants sustained serious injuries after a vehicle driven by a senior police officer ramped into a residential house they were sleeping in within Kabarnet town.

The midnight incident occurred when the private car veered off the road and hit the residential rental house constructed adjacent to the road.

According to Joel Keino, one of the casualty, they were fast asleep when the incident took place and they were awakened by a loud bang after the black Toyota Harrier car had completely broken and entered the stoned walled house.

“We didn’t even notice how it crashed into our house, we were only shocked to find that we were down and the front tires were on our heads,” he said.

Keino who spoke to journalist on Wednesday outside his dilapidated house said it was the neighbors who rushed to retrieve them from debris after they were trapped inside the house and were rushed to Baringo county referral hospital where they were examined, treated and discharged but his wife who suffered fractured left rib and elbow is admitted.

Keino said that nothing was salvaged in the house since all their belongings like a Television set, radio, bed and cupboard and other items were damaged beyond repair.

He said that the police officer who caused the accident never came back to check the extent of damage caused or apologize to them for crashing into their room, injuring them and destroying property.

Some neighbor’s while narrating the horrific incident in camera claimed that the police officer who was at the wheel during the past curfew accident was driving at a high speed and seemed intoxicated when pulled out of his vehicle by fellow officers.

They also revealed that the vehicle number plate was taken off immediately the incident occurred and the vehicle was towed to an unknown location.

Kabarnet OCPD Francis Gachoki while confirming the incident over the phone claimed that the senior officer was trying to avoid hitting an oncoming boda boda at a sharp corner before his car lost control and crashed into the rental house.

Gachoki also said that the officer is still in shock following the accident but in stable condition after medics conducted a scanning and x-ray and results showed there were no internal injuries.
