The 58th Madaraka Day celebrations are being held at the newly refurbished Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu City.
This year’s event will be attended by about 3,000 Kenyans in the 30,000-seater stadium.
Government restricted the number of attendees to enhance social distance and arrest the spread of the Covid-19.
Madaraka Day celebrations are always characterized by performances from various artists and music groups, and Kisumu will not be an exception.
Various artists are expected to entertain thousands of Kenyans present at the venue and those who will be following the event live from the comfort of their homes.
Many of the artists who will be performing are drawn from the Luo Nyanza region.
Kisumu’s Madaraka day celebrations will witness a host of performances from legendary Benga, Ohangla and AfroBenga artists who composed music collaborations in the three categories.
The three songs were sponsored by the Permanent Presidential Music Commission.
The first group consists of artists who composed a Benga song christened Wazalendo.
The artists include;
- Dr Osito Kalle
- Linet Aluoch Pamba
- Dola KabarryJavoh Kamic
- Ongoro Jakarachuonyo
The second group of artists is one that composed an AfroBenga song dubbed Kenya Mora, specific for the occasion.
They include;
- Suzanna Owiyo
- Iddi Achieng
- Jose Langa
- Lizzy Seme
- Alex Kamwana
- Bluo Allan
- Apesi Mnyama Mkali
The lastt group composed an Ohangala song titled Kenya Moja, also specific for the occasion.
They include;
- Musa Jakadala
- Odongo Swagg
- Feddy Jakadongo
- Koffi Macadory
- Achieng Nya Rongo
- Engineer Wuod Fibi
- Odhis Toto
Other popular artists including Tonny Nyandundo are expected to perform.
The event will be hosted by Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’oo.
