Veterinary officers in Nyandarua County have moved with speed to vaccinate stray dogs in the area. after the canines attacked school-going children.
This is after four pupils of Michinda Primary school, in Leshau Pondo ward were bitten by the stray dogs during a morning parade.
A few days earlier, another boy was bitten by a dog on his way to school, according to Karago-ini location area Chief John Kipsoimo.
The two attacks led to the commencement of the vaccination exercise in the area.
Sub County Livestock Officer Eunice Maina said the exercise will be conducted in areas where the dogs attacked the school-going children.
“Unlike mass vaccination where a large region is covered and a two-week notice is given, ring vaccination is done on short notice immediately a case has been reported. It aims at preventing zoonotic disease infection. Zoonotic means that it can be transmitted from livestock to humans,” Eunice said.
The vaccination exercise kicked off Tuesday at Kahembe, Karago-ini and Gwa Kung’u locations all in Leshau Pondo Ward.
