A machete-wielding gang of robbers on Wednesday night robbed 12 families in Keroka Town.

According to Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba, the gang of about 10 people moved from house to house around the town’s three suburbs, robbing victims and maiming others.

“The robbers attacked the complainants between midnight and 2 am while armed with pangas and clubs. They wore Maasai shukas and had all their faces hooded,” Mariba said.

All the victims who were robbed, according to the administrator, lost their mobile phones and cash to the attacker.

Many were also injured during the attack.

Violet Akoth, who lives at Montine Village, and her 7-year-old daughter, were beaten before being robbed of Sh6,000.

She suffered injuries in her chicks and head while the daughter also sustained injuries on her forehead and the shoulder.

Ednah Bosibori, 35, another victim, told the police that the gang forced their way into her house and beat her up before ordering her to give them cash.

“The men broke the door and entered my house. They first asked me to give them money but I had no cash with me. They beat me up and threatened to cut me into pieces. I pleaded with them to take my mobile phone and spare me,” Bosibori narrated.

They took her phone, moved to her neighbour, Moraa Omwanza, 36, whom they robbed her a phone and Ksh3,000.

Not far from Moraa’s rented house at Matangi Village, within the Town’s Westland suburbs, they attacked and robbed another victim identified as Jackeline Chelagat from whom they forcefully obtained Sh13,500 and went away with her mobile phone.

She was injured in her back after the thugs hit her with a blunt object.

Masaba North Sub-County Police Commander Robert Ndambili assured the residents that the perpetrators of the violence will be dealt with per the law.

“It is unfortunate that this isolated incident could happen. We have not witnessed such incident before but we are already gathering intelligence over the happenings and within no time, we shall have arrests made,” Ndambili said.
