A middle-aged man has been arrested for defiling a 14-year-old girl in Kwanza Sub County, Trans Nzoia county.

Confirming the incident, Kwanza Sub County Police Commander James Odero noted that the identity of the suspect had been withheld to avoid victimization.

Odero also confirmed that the girl is undergoing medical tests while the suspect is being held at the police station waiting to be arraigned in court.

The police commander added that defilement cases in the area have been on the rise and gave a staunch warning to parents who collude with culprits to buy their way out upon being arrested.

He also warned parents against soliciting cash through the formation of ‘Kangaroo’ courts where parties engage in money exchange and fail to provide evidence in courts.

Speaking to K24, the mother of the 14-year-old girl said that the suspect carried away her child to the nearby maize plantation and defiled her badly.

At the time of the incident, the mother was absent from home in search of casual labour in one of the farms.

” I had gone to the neighbouring farm in search of manual work and this is the time the suspect took advantage and took away my daughter to the maize plantation where he did his beastly act, ” she said in an interview on Tuesday, May 18.

She said that she noted a change in her movement when blood started oozing out of her private parts.

The victim revealed the ordeal upon interrogation by a team from the National Police Reservists who later launched a manhunt which led to the arrest of the victim.
