A 32-year old Bungoma man shocked his village after he impregnated his mother-in-law.

The mother in-law had visited them to assist the daughter in handling their newborn baby.

Kelvin Waliba, according to his wife, did not deny having an intimate affair with her 43-year-old mother.

Nekesa, Waliba’s wife, blamed herself for having invited her mother to help babysit their 5 months old daughter.

“I am a full time employee and I don’t have enough money to hire a househelp. I therefore invited my mother to come over and help as I make plans to get a househelp,” Nekesa said.

Waliba who works as a gardener in a neighbouring school is said to have been sneaking back into the house to make love with the 43-year-old mother-in-law.

According to the mother-in-law, she has been single and therefore didn’t see any problem with what she did.

“I am not married and was struggling with intense dry spell. I found it hard to reject Kelvin advances”, Said the Mother-in-law.

Village elders are now planning a cleansing ceremony for the family as this is considered a great taboo.

Bungoma county has its share of doses when it comes to drama. In another separate incident, a 43-year-old man died in January 2021 following a brutal beating by a man who claimed that he caught him with his wife in their matrimonial bed.

Christantus Wafula is said to have been found in the act with his neighbour’s wife by her husband, Wafubwa Makhanu, on a Monday morning.

The attack is said to have occurred at about 6 am when the husband who works in another town returned unexpectedly only to find the two in his bedroom.

According to the villagers, the cuckolded man attacked his rival and also sought help from his neighbours who assisted him in beating up his wife’s lover.

The body of the 43-year-old Bungoma man was taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has left residents of Siritanyi village in Kanduyi Constituency in shock and disbelief.

Speaking to the media, the chairman of the local policing community Agnesa Wekesa said that the slain man was well-known in the area.

“I was still in my house when I received a phone call from one of my officers that someone had been found in his neighbour’s bedroom sleeping with another man’s wife and he was being beaten to death.

I rushed to the scene and found he was beaten badly. I asked the mob to stop the beating,” he said.

Wekesa said the mob descended on the man with huge sticks, wooden clubs, and other crude weapons.

“I asked the man of the house where he was when the man entered his house and he said that he had left for work but he used to suspect that something was going on before he arrived unexpectedly and caught them red-handed,” he said.

“Police arrived on time and stopped the mob from lynching the Bungoma man,” he said.

The village elder, Patrick Wafula Mukonyero, said the locals are in disbelief since this is the first such incident to occur in the area.

Mukonyero said the woman managed to flee from the mob leaving behind the man.

“I am very shocked because this man is well known in this area and he does not take alcohol. He only drinks tea and people usually say that it’s only drunkards who mess up and engage in such bad vices,” he said.

Bungoma South police boss Wilson Nanga said that police have launched investigations into the matter.
