Flamboyant MCA gets 66 months jail for his role in botched ‘prison break’

Lamu MCA Yahya Ahmed Shee has been sentenced to five years and six months imprisonment for attempting to aid the escape of three convicts in 2017.

Senior Resident Magistrate Themba Sitati sentenced the Mkomani Ward MCA to four years for each of the three counts relating to the attempted rescue of the convicts and directed them to run concurrently.

On two counts of unlawful resistance of arrest and willful obstruction of police officers while in line of duty, Shee was fined sh 400,000 on each count or a serve a sentence of four years.

“If he doesn’t pay the fine, the sentence will run consecutively to the first three counts,” ruled the Magistrate.

The magistrate sentenced him to an additional 18 months in jail for instigating a riot.

The flamboyant Ward Representative, also known as Basode, was last week on Thursday, April 1, found guilty in the six counts.

During the fracas, two police officers and two civilians are reported to have been injured as rowdy youth tried to rescue the convicts from police custody.

The suspects they were trying to aid escape custody were: Zamzam Mohamed Salim, Ali Mzee Ali and Athman Yusuf Ali, from police custody.

The MCA and two of his accomplices had been accused of physically assaulting police officers Fredrick Machini and Paul Musamuli during a riot.
