Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i has mourned the tragic death of two police officers, one of whom was attached to VIP protection in his office.
The two officers died in a murder-suicide after the husband, Police Constable Hudson Wakise, shot and killed his wife, Police Constable Pauline Wakasa, then turned the gun on himself outside the Ruaraka GSU camp on Tuesday evening.
CS Matiang’i said the death is attributable to the psychological challenges that young police officers face and vowed to put the mental health of security officers in policy reforms.
According to the statement released by the Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Wednesday, April 7, Wakise, who is a GSU officer, had been off duty since April 1, and had just reported back to work on Tuesday.
After working until 3 pm, IG Mutyambai said Wakise retreated to his residence near the GSU camp, at Drive-In Estate in Ruaraka, where hours later he shot and killed his wife then turned the gun on himself.
“Eyewitnesses and neighbours are helping the police with investigations into the incident which took place outside the GSU camp at approximately 5 pm,” said Mutyambai.
