The Education Ministry has denied claims of leakage in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination exams.

In a report issued on April 1, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said that only fake papers were being circulated in some parts of the country purported to be genuine exam materials.

“Our examination has not been leaked, it will not be leaked and only genuine revision can help candidates to pass the examinations successfully,” said the Education CS, Prof Magoha.

The only irregularities noted, CS Magoha said, were eight candidates caught with mobile phones while in examination rooms with a total of 15 cell phones confiscated.

“Our findings show that, save for a few cases, all the elaborate guidelines meant to preempt irregularities in the examination are being adhered to in 99.9 percent of the more than 10,000 centres.

A total of 752,891 candidates are sitting the secondary school national exams for the 2020 academic calendar.

Further, Magoha said that 15 people have been arrested during the examinations for offenses connected to malpractices.

“A university student has been arrested in Busia County for aiding in the cheating. This vindicates the Multi-Agency Monitoring Team’s earlier position that university students have been hired to aid in cheating during the examinations,” said Magoha.
