Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been ejected as the Senate Deputy Minority Leader.

On Wednesday morning, March 24, 20 Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senators endorsed the petition to remove Malala from the Senate leadership post.

The senators replaced Malala with Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo in a hastily convened Parliamentary Group meeting called to oust the close ally of Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.

Speaking on the choice of Senator Mazdayo after Malala’s ouster, Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Beatrice Kwamboka, said Kilifi County gave ODM 100 percent votes.

“All MPs, MCAs, Woman Reps, governors and senators were elected on ODM tickets,” boasted Kwamboka, saying the Coast region is their party’s stronghold.

But Malala was accused of being disrespectful to National Super Alliance’s (Nasa) co-principals, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and ODM Deputy Party Leader, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

The Kakamega senator’s close ally, Mudavadi, has been at loggerheads with Nasa’s dominant party, ODM.

The ANC leader is also part of the “Sacred Alliance” that brings together Kanu’s Gideon Moi, Wiper party’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetangula.
