Celebrated media personality Anne Kiguta returns on your screen on Sunday, July 21, with a show that ensures all the questions you have for Kenya’s top leaders are posed to them – and answered.
Ms Kiguta will host Punchline show on K24 TV every Sunday.
In an interview with K24 Digital on Thursday, Ms Kiguta said she is ready to take on the leaders as they come in her set.
Themed around a boxing bout, the revered journalist spars with the leaders as she attempts to get to the bottom of the issues and defend public interest.
“It is, obviously, not a literal fight. As a journalist who covers politics, one has to prepare himself or herself for the politicians’ punch-back. You are not going to seek the truth and not expect a push-back, especially if the truth is not rosy,” said Ms Kiguta.
“We will endeavour to get to the bottom of the issues. Sometimes, that results in a kind of sparring. We are not doing it deliberately to be combative, rather to ensure questions are answered. If you are going to get the truth, you better be prepared to put up a fight.”
-Youth-
Ms Kiguta said, among other key issues touching on Kenyans, she is more than ready to ensure that the youth’s concerns, including unemployment, are addressed.
“I agree to a significant extent that the Kenyan youth don’t feel represented in the meaningful discussions held by the media because we, as media, have acted as if youth are only interested in people gyrating on the screens.
“When you think of youth programming, most times, we usually think of bringing them the most controversial artists. As far as my show is concerned, I do not segment Kenyan issues,” said Ms Kiguta, adding: “Look, as long as you are a Kenyan citizen, your issue is valid, and I don’t have to break it down and put you in a certain group.”
-DP Ruto-
Asked to share the identity of her first guest on Sunday, July 21, Ms Kiguta said: “I will be hosting the Deputy President, William Ruto, on July 21, 2019. He is a colossal figure in Kenya and there is certainly no shortage of issues to discuss. He is a straight-shooter who doesn’t shy away from the difficult subjects and will be a great guest. I look forward to welcoming him into the ring.”
