Three elephants have been killed in Sagala area, Taita Taveta, the Kenya Wildlife Service has revealed.
“All the deceased jumbos had their tusks intact, implying the deaths were not as a result of attempted poaching,” KWS said in a statement to the press on Friday, January 29.
KWS said that Sagala is a hotspot for human-wildlife conflict and rangers suspect the elephants may have been poisoned after encroaching on farm settlements.
“Investigations are however underway to pinpoint the actual cause of the demise, and to bring the perpetrators to book,” said KWS.
