Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has been charged afresh in a Kisumu court over the destruction of the Kibwari tea estate in 2019.
Governor Sang was charged afresh before Kisumu Resident Magistrate Beryl Omolo after the prosecution amended its charge sheet.
He was charged with three counts, including malicious damage to property, incitement to violence, and assault leading to bodily harm of one Jonah Kemboi.
The court heard that on June 8, 2019, at Kibware within Nandi County, jointly with others not before the court, he wilfully and unlawfully destroyed tea bushes on a piece of land, L.R Number 6075, which is the property of Kibware Tea Estate valued at Sh2million.
The prosecution claimed that Sang, using a blunt object, assaulted Kemboi causing him injury on his neck and bruised his lower limbs.
But the governor pleaded not guilty to the three charges leveled against him and was released on the Sh500,000 he was granted two years ago.
His lawyer, Jane Masai, requested to be supplied with prosecution documents, including the charge sheet, saying the prosecution had not yet supplied them as required by the law.
The magistrate also ordered Sang to appear in-person in the subsequent proceedings.
The matter will be heard on March 11.
