Police are still searching for the eldest son of the couple that was murdered by unknown people alongside two of their children in Karura village, Kiambu County earlier this week.
Speaking to Mediamax Digital, Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga said that the slain couple’s son was said to have reported back to campus at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) but has not been traced since the discovery of the heinous crime.
Wanyanga said that the Jkuat student’s phone has been off and his whereabouts are still unknown, raising fears over his safety.
The slain couple’s two daughters who had reported back to high school are safe, the administrator revealed on Friday.
So far, leads in the investigation of the killing of the four family members and their farmhand are few.
Locals told police that they had spotted a white Probox and motorcycle outside the murdered couple’s home but no one recorded or recalls the number plates since nothing looked out of the ordinary then.
The gruesome killings have confounded the locals as the home is one of the most secure in the village. It boasts a live fence, a high-security wall fitted with electric wire and three gates.
Police also established that several other relatives of the slain couple were shot and killed in unclear circumstances in recent years.
On Thursday, police were searching for a man who went missing on Tuesday night over suspected links to the heinous killings.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations revisited the scene and said that there were two killers in the compound who seemed to have had enough time to execute the murders.
The sleuths ruled out robbery and are investigating a case of murder as nothing was stolen from the family.
An analysis of the bloodstain shoe prints indicated that the killers walked around within and outside the house.
So far no murder weapon has been recovered by the detectives, an indication that they could have carried away the tools they used to hack the family members to death.
“The main suspect has gone missing and his mobile phone was switched off in Naivasha the same night the victims were killed,” a senior detective said.
There were blood and blood spatter both on the floor and the walls, an indication of the brutality that was meted on the victims.
The victims must have been lured by someone who knew them since detectives did not find any evidence showing that they forced the gate open or climbed up the perimeter wall.
The murderers killed a US-based Njoroge Warunge, his wife Anne Wanjiku Njoroge, their two children and a nephew.
