A Kenya Prisons Constable shot himself dead after killing an Administration Police (AP) Corporal at Mwea GK Prisons senior staff quarters on Sunday night.

The prison Warder, Constable Kering Kipkosgei, had visited the house of his girlfriend, Sergeant Esther Muthoni Mwangi, but as they were having supper, the AP who is the former husband to Sgt Muthoni stormed the house and demanded to know what the warder was doing in the house.

The AP officer has been identified as Corporal Boniface Mithamo Ngaragari of AP’s Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) in Kianyaga.

They started fighting and the female colleague managed to separate them and escorted Corporal Mithamo out of the house.

The prison warder then picked his firearm which he used to shoot the AP officer in the neck.

“After realising that he had fatally shot the AP officer, he ran outside and shot himself on the head,” Mwea East Sub-County Commander said.

The bodies have been taken to Karira Mission Hospital mortuary.
