A heated argument is said to have ensued on Tuesday during a closed-door meeting where Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho met with their party officials ostensibly for a post-mortem of the Msambweni parliamentary by-election defeat.

The leaders were reportedly trading blame over the loss in which ODM candidate, Omar Boga, lost to an independent candidate, Feisal Bader, who was backed by Deputy President William Ruto in the highly contested by-election held mid this month.

Among those at the meeting held at the Diani Reef Hotel are Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, Kwale Senator Issa Boy and a host of ward representatives from Coast region.

Feisal won with 15,251 votes against his closest rival, who garnered 10,444 votes.

The independent candidate was declared the winner by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission returning officer, Yusuf Abubakar, on Wednesday night, December 16, and issued with a certificate.

The Msambweni mini-poll had attracted eight candidates.

The seat fell vacant in March this year after the death of Suleiman Dori.

Feisal is a nephew of the late Dori.
