A 19-year-old Form Three student who allegedly assaulted two policemen, one of them her boyfriend, has been released on free bond.
Sheryl Awino walked to freedom after the two complainants, Dennis Mugo —- who is her boyfriend– and Solomon Kipchumba, failed to produce a P3 form that would have assisted the investigating officer in the case.
Awino is a student at St. Peter’s Rambula Mixed Secondary School while Mugo and Kipchumba are attached to Ugunja Police Station in Siaya County.
“We could not go on with the case after we lacked the P3 form that could have assisted us in the case,” Ugunja police boss Lazarus Tarus said.
The student on Friday, December 25, attacked the two officers with a piece of broken glass, injuring them in the process.
According to a police report seen by Mediamax Digital, Awino first attacked her boyfriend who screamed for help prompting his colleague Solomon Kipchumba to run to his rescue.
However, the girl also quickly turned on Kipchumba.
It was Kipchumba who filed a report at the station before they were taken to Sagam Community Hospital in Luanda in the same county.
The cause of the fight between Awino and Mugo still remains unclear.
Police said Awino and Mugo had been embroiled in a long and bitter physical fight which resulted in the two breaking a glass table.
After breaking the glass table, Awino is said to have picked one of the broken pieces and cut Mugo with it in the head and his left arm.
When Kipchumba tried to intervene, she used the same piece to cut him in the lower lip.
