Police officers in Machakos County have launched investigations into the macabre killing of a 14-year-old girl whose body was found dumped by the riverside in Itukwi village in Wamunyu location.
Kaitha Chief David Soo on Tuesday revealed that the body of the Class Eight girl, a candidate at Kilaani Primary School, was found by the locals on Monday morning.
Soo has also revealed that the killers of the girl first defiled the girl and then strangled her to death.
According to the chief, the girl had been sent to Ndituni market by her parents on Sunday evening but never made it back home.
It was only on Monday that one of the residents of Itukwi village called the administrator informing him of the discovery of a body of a girl dumped near a river along the road leading to the market.
“I received a call yesterday morning informing me that the body of a girl had been found dumped along the road leading to Itukwi village just a few meters from Nditini market. I immediately drove to the site and on arrival discovered the girl was actually a resident of the village who had been sent to the market by her parents the previous day(Sunday),” he said.
Soo has also confirmed that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations visited the scene of the crime and took the body to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
It has also emerged that two people alleged to have been seen with the girl before her disappearance and death have been arrested for questioning.
Shadrak Mutuku Musili, a resident of Itukwi village, said the incident has left them in shock and disbelief and called for a speedy probe into the crime to ensure those behind the heinous act are brought to justice.
