Two suspects accused of assaulting and fatally pushing a 28-year-old woman out of a moving public service vehicle were arraigned on Wednesday, July 17, in Nairobi.

The accused, Joseph Muasya and John Ndwai, who operate as a pair in a matatu belonging to Kileton SACCO, appeared before High Court judge Jessie Lessit, who directed they undergo mental examination before being charged.

The suspects did not take plea Wednesday.

Muasya and Ndwai are accused of hitting Florence Wanjiku, 28, on the head with a blunt object, and, thereafter, pushed her out of a moving matatu on Valley Road in Nairobi on June 25, 2019.

Florence Wanjiku was travelling to Nairobi city centre from Hurlinghum, when the incident happened.

Florence Wanjiku was taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. It is alleged that it took nearly one day before doctors attended to her.

Muasya and Ndwai were later arrested in connection with Florence Wanjiku’s death.

The two will be charged on July 25.
