US President Donald Trump won Flordia, one of the country’s most-coveted battleground states, and he and rival, Democrat Joe Biden, focussed their energies early Wednesday to three states that could prove crucial in determining the White House race.

Neither Trump nor Biden yet has the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency during an epic campaign that will shape the country’s response to the surging coronavirus pandemic and economic and racial justice questions.

The two candidates were locked in tight fights across the country, with Trump taking Texas and claiming battlegrounds of Iowa and Ohio while Biden won Minnesota and New Hampshire.

Some of the races were too early to call in some of the other fiercely fought and crucial states, including Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Trump had retained many of the states he won in 2016 and as predicted, the race seemed in part to rest on three states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

Biden, who appeared briefly in front of supporters in Delaware, called for patience, saying the election isn’t over until every vote is counted.

“It’s not my place or Donald Trump’s place to declare who’s won this election,” Biden said.

Trump said he would make a statement.
