Kenyan lawyer Paul Gicheru has surrendered to the authorities in The Netherlands five years after a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

The International Criminal Court issued the arrest warrant on March 10, 2015, and unsealed it on September 10, 2015.

“Gicheru, a lawyer formerly based in Kenya, is suspected of offences against the administration of justice consisting in corruptly influencing witnesses of the Court,” said the ICC on Monday, November 2, 2020.

Gicheru’s arrest warrant was issued alongside that of Philip Kipkoech Bett after the court accused them of corruptly influencing witnesses.

The Hague-based court said it had submitted a cooperation request to the Dutch authorities for the arrest and surrender of Gicheru to the Court upon completion of the necessary national arrest proceedings.

Bett is still at large, the court revealed.
