The court has ordered former Kiambu County governor, Ferdinard Waititu, to proceed with the hearing of his corruption-related case despite his health condition.

The Director of Public Prosecutions through counsel, Joseph Riungu Gitonga, told the Nairobi court that three doctors examined Waititu but test results will be out on Friday.

“Following the ruling of October 28, 2020, in which you allowed prosecution prayer that the first accused person be examined by three independent doctors appointed by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, we communicated the same information to the Kenyatta National Hospital chief executive,” said Riungu.

The same letter was received by Jumuia Hospital where the accused was admitted on the same date.

Magistrate Thomas Nzioki had ordered KMDB to appoint three doctors to ascertain the medical status of the Kiambu governor who has been seeking adjournment of his case citing poor health.

The DPP lawyer told the magistrate that Prof Godfrey Ndule (internal medicine), Dr. Loise Ochieng (internal and infections diseases), and Prof Otieno (internal medicine) examined the former governor as ordered and will release the results on Friday.

Prof Ndule and Dr. Ochieng work at Nairobi Hospital while Prof. Otieno is employed by the Universit of Nairobi.

The trio was ordered to examine Waititu and prepare a report to submit to the court on his health condition.

According to their preliminary report, the doctors met on the conference room of the KNH first floor in the Accident and Emergency Wing on October 31, where they examined Waititu and got his medical history from several hospitals.

After examining him, the doctors ordered further tests, including CT scans and blood tests.

In their preliminary report, the doctors said a chest specialist is needed to evaluate Waititu further.

A letter from Jumia Hospital to the DPP revealed that Waititu had been admitted to the facility on October 25 but was discharged three days later after receiving treatment.
