Raphael Tuju says some leaders are hypocritical when it comes to the Building Bridges Initiative report yet they benefitted from the 2008 handshake which saw Kenya forming a Grand Coalition government in which Raila Odinga was the prime minister.
The Jubilee Party Secretary-General, who was speaking at the Kenya Editors Guild luncheon at Stanley Hotel, said that the expansion of the Executive does not overburden taxpayers.
“In 2008, Kenya had 43 Cabinet positions due to the handshake. You cannot compare the expansion in BBI with the 2008 government,” said Tuju.
The Jubilee official said that the BBI is a result of the 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga that ended political stalemate after elections.
Tuju advised the media to always be vigilant because there is always someone trying to cartel the freedom of the media.
Speaking at the luncheon, lawyer, Prof Ben Sihanya, said that the BBI report is the best tool to end the violence that the country experiences every electioneering period.
The Editors Guild is among institutions that made presentations to the BBI Secretariat in March through the Kenya Media Sector Working Group.
