Willie Kimani murder trial has been adjourned after one of the accused suspects, Stephen Cheburet, tested positive for Covid-19 three times.

The court also heard that other accused persons were sick from the virus but have since recovered.

Cheburet, who is remanded at Kamiti Maximum Prison, is in isolation and undergoing treatment.

The case was expected to proceed on Monday, take a break on Tuesday, and resume on October 23.  It will now proceed on Monday, October 26.

Cheburet, who attended the court session virtually from his sick bay, said: “ I am still sick. I am not ready to proceed today and I wish to be allowed to recover first”

He also told the court that he had tested positive three times. He is scheduled to take the fourth test on October 22.

The lawyer for the fifth accused asked the court to address the issue of bail before proceeding with the remaining witness.

In response, the court directed the prosecution to serve the defence with responses before October 26, when the case will resume for oral submissions.
