Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her bodyguard, Geoffrey Otieno, were on Monday ordered to remain in police custody for three days pending a court-ordered mental assessment.

The duo will be detained at Port Police Station until Thursday, October 22, when they shall be charged with murder.

Jumwa is accused of fatally injuring Ngubao Jola, who was shot dead during Ganda Ward in Malindi Constituency by-election in 2019.

The MP has been out on bond having been arrested together with her bodyguard, Geoffrey Otieno, for the death of Jola but were never charged.

The court had ordered that they assist police with investigations.

Last week, Coast regional head of the Director of Public Prosecutions Alloys Kemo, confirmed that they have enough evidence to charge the MP and Otieno with murder.

The two have been out on a Sh1 million bond with a surety of a similar amount.
