Eyebrows were raised after Deputy President (DP) William Ruto held talks with East African Court of Justice judge Charles Nyachae in Nairobi.

Before his appointment to the Arusha-based court, Nyachae, the first born son of former powerful Cabinet minister in the Moi and Kibaki regimes, Simeon Nyachae, was one of the Jubilee pointmen in Kisii county, where he vied for the Senate seat in 2017 but lost to Prof Sam Ongeri.

Ruto met the younger Nyachae ahead of the DP’s scheduled visit to Nyamira County today.

“Met and discussed matters of national interest and regional integration, linkages and how Kenya can make optimum gains, from the fivemember trade bloc through improved market efficiency with the East African Court of Justice Judge Nyachae, at Karen, Nairobi County,” said the DP on his Facebook page.

The meeting generated heated discussion on social media with some commentators saying the judge could be signaling his loyalty to the two Jubilee factions.
