Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), George Magoha, has directed schools to identify learners with pre-existing conditions for special attention as they troop back to class after six months at home.
The Education boss also reminded school heads to strictly enforce the wearing of masks, urging parents to acquire reusable masks for their children and avoid unnecessary visits.
The overjoyed CS said that he was glad schools had complied with the directive to reopen despite the short notice issued by the ministry.
He said that the Education ministry will closely monitor progress in the next two weeks to see whether the rest of the learners can also resume their studies.
So far, only Grade Four, Class Eight, and Form Four students are trooping back to class today in the phased reopening of schools.
Prof Magoha urged teachers to ensure that they deal with any arising emergencies expeditiously.
He assured parents that schools have been linked to health facilities for an immediate response as well as Covid-19 response committees domiciled in learning facilities.
Prof Magoha also encouraged pregnant students to report back, saying that schools will guide and offer all the assistance they need.
He also pleaded with principals to ensure that no child is sent home over lack of school fees.
The Education CS warned schools against sending home students who did not participate in online learning.
