Police in Embu County have arrested Itabua OCS, Jacob Kaberia Mbiti, after his 16-year-old daughter shot and seriously wounded her cousin Doreen Kathambi, 23.

While the OCS was arrested on Tuesday, October 6, the shooting incident involving his firearm, a Jericho pistol, occurred last month on September 27, and had not been reported to the police.

According to the police report, Mbiti left the firearm unattended at home allowing his teenage daughter access to the gun.

Police said that girl was playing with the gun when she fired one round of 9mm bullet, seriously injuring her cousin.

The cousin was taken to Tenri Hospital in Embu after the shooting where she was admitted and later discharged on October 5.

However, police said that the firearm was recovered with 14 rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge.

Police said the matter is under investigation.
