The officials who audited Kajiado County’s financial statements on Tuesday failed to appear before the Senate’s County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC).
The auditors were scheduled to appear with the county governor Joseph ole Lenku to shed light on queries raised in the 2016/17 financial year.
Their failure to appear angered the senate team who were vexed by Mr Lenku’s assertion that he was ill-prepared to answer their questions.
Mr Lenku said he could not take responsibility in their absence and requested more time to prepare financial statements for the year in question.
Efforts by the Auditor-General to reach the Kajiado auditors on the phone were futile.
A back and forth ensued between the committee members and the governor.
But the debate ended after the CPAIC chairman, Mr Moses Kajwang’, ruled that it would be unprocedural to continue with the meeting without the auditors “who in this context act as prosecutors.”
Mr Kajwang’ postponed the meeting to Monday, July 22, and ordered the auditors to appear alongside the governor.
