Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has rubbished Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s claims of an assassination plot against him.
Instead, DCI Kinoti wants Senator Malala charged with lying, saying the information he gave was “false & ill-intended.”
“Based on the evidence on record, we find the allegations by Honourable Senator Cleophas Wakhungu Malala are untrue, malicious, false and ill-intended and therefore urge this Honourable Committee to order that author of these allegations be charged with the offence of giving false information contrary to section129 (3) of the Penal Code,” said Kinoti.
Appearing before the Senate National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday, September 23, Malala failed to furnish investigators with the required documents to assist in the investigation.
Among the details Malala was directed to reveal were specific dates when he was trailed, telephone numbers and photos of the purported police hit squad that was behind his assassination plot.
Kinoti called on Malala to apologise to the Special Service Unit, citing the seriousness of the false allegations made by the senator.
He said the false claims have exposed police officers to public ridicule.
The DCI boss said that the alleged meeting by the hit squad at La Mada hotel never took place.
“Hotel la Mada management and staff affirmed that meetings fitting the description as alleged by Senator Cleophas Malala never took place within their premises and that the said motor vehicle has never visited the premises,” Kinoti said.
He also dismissed the senator’s claim that the said hit squad also met in a Thika hotel, saying the name provided by Malala is nonexistent.
Malala broke down in tears when he appeared before the Senate’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, claiming that his life is in danger.
But Kinoti said that the senator has been assigned two bodyguards, a corporal and constable, to ensure his safety.
