Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui has suffered a blow after the ward representatives sent home his Roads and Infrastructure minister Lucy Kariuki.
On Thursday morning, the county assembly members (MCAs) voted overwhelmingly for the impeachment motion tabled last week by Kaptembwo ward rep Peter Kajwang’ throwing Governor Kinyanjui’s administration into a crisis.
Forty-nine MCAs voted for Ms Kariukui’s removal, 21 against while one abstained..
A total of 71 votes were cast in the election presided over by Speaker Maina Kairu.
Ms Kariuki’s impeachment comes hours after the county boss transferred her to Youth, Gender, Sports and Social Services docket.
Mr Kinyanjui also picked Mr Erick Korir to head the Roads ministry in an acting capacity in the changes effected on Monday afternoon.
However, MCAs declared her transfer inconsequential and expressed disapproval in the Tuesday morning vote.
