Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Sunday officially launched his 2022 presidential bid, promising a new start for Kenyans but five million jobs in his first years if elected.

During the launch in Machakos town, the two-term governor also promised to revamp Kenya’s infrastructure by building roads and highways in every constituency to create an environment for economic growth.

“Kenyans need a young, dynamic, innovative but mature leader. A person who understands the system but is not a captive of the system…Kenyans want a doer,” said Dr Mutua.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap leader said that Kenyans are tired of politics of greed and tribalism and thirst for a new kind of leadership.

“It is time for Kenya to usher in a new dispensation, a new era, a new period of better leadership and life. We need a new way of thinking, of doing things and a new type of leaders,” said the Machakos leader in a speech also streamed live on social media platforms.

The governor said that the chasm between the poor and rich continues to grow, 60 years after independence despite numerous programs launched since independence to end poverty.

“Kenya is a great country and God loves us but our style of politics and the way we chose leaders has made us continue to suffer. We have become a country of a few billionaires and millions of poor, struggling, unemployed and desperate people,” said Dr. Mutua.

The governor now joins a growing list of contenders for the State House seat, including Deputy President William Ruto, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Orange Democratic Movement boss Raila Odinga.

Makueni Governor, Prof Kivutha Kibwana, has also indicated that he would like to vie for the presidential seat in 2022.

Others who are interested in vying for the presidential seat are Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
