Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has suggested that Deputy President William Ruto will run for presidency in 2022 general election on a new political party.
Sudi says it is not a must that the DP flies the Jubilee Party ticket in the Uhuru-succession race.
According to Sudi, Jubilee Party is “just a political outfit on paper”, and that existing contracts with it can be terminated without following a bureaucratic procedure.
“Jubilee is just a political party on paper. Our party is William Ruto and William Ruto is our party (sic). It is not a must we use Jubilee Party to run for elective seats [in the next general election]. We shall form a new party and put it on paper the way we did with Jubilee,” Oscar Sudi said in Eldoret on Saturday, August 29, when he, Uasin-Gishu Speaker David Kiplagat, among other local leaders met a consortium of MCAs from Baringo, Nandi, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Uasin-Gishu counties.
“You shouldn’t be worried about the political party that we’ll use to run for elective seats on in 2022. That is a small issue,” Sudi said.
Ward reps present at the convention vowed to take part in grassroots mobilisation for a Ruto candidature in 2022 presidential race.
Sudi’s remarks come two days after Dr Ruto said he will “try as much as possible to run for presidency on a Jubilee Party ticket, but if push comes to shove, he will consider other options”.
The DP said the current Jubilee Party has been “hijacked by busybodies and power brokers like David Murathe, who do not understand the DNA of the party”.
What remains constant, is the DP’s ambition — to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta at the House on the Hill.
