Kirinyaga County Assembly has been closed for 21 days after one of its staff members contracted coronavirus.
The Kirinyaga Covid-19 Ad Hoc Committee Chairman, Baptista Kanga, advised the county’s 33 ward representatives and 200 staff members to self-isolate for 14 days.
During the 21-day period, Kanga said the assembly chambers will be fumigated.
“We have one confirmed case in the assembly and that’s why we have decided to send all workers home for self-quarantine. We expect them to resume work next month,” he said.
Last week, county assembly workers were voluntarily tested for coronavirus in a drive initiated by the Clerk.
The county assembly has been a beehive of activities since the impeachment of Governor Anne Waiguru two months ago.
