Sixteen (16) more patients died of COVID-19 in Kenya, pushing the country’s toll to 532, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced on Friday, August 21.

On a positive note, Kenya’s total recoveries reached 18,157 after 288 patients were declared virus-free, Dr. Mwangangi said while addressing journalists at Afya House in Nairobi.

One hundred and ninety (190) of the recovered patients were under home-based care, whereas 98 had been admitted at various hospitals across the country.

The country, however, registered 322 new coronavirus cases, pushing the caseload to 31,763.

Three hundred and thirteen (313) of the new patients were Kenyans, whereas nine were foreigners.

The youngest new patient is aged 3 months old whereas the oldest is aged 92 years old.

As of August 21, 2020, Kenya had 31 patients admitted to the ICU of different health facilities.

Sixteen (16) healthcare workers across 35 counties have so far died of COVID-19, said Dr. Mwangangi.
